Mexico saw an increase of 8.5% in exports of leather, hides and skins in volume in the first quarter of 2015 and by 4% in value, compared to the first quarter of last year, reported leatherbiz.com.
Mexican tanners exported 4.7 million square-metres of wet blue, crust and finished leather during the three-month period this year, bringing in export earnings of $87.2 million.
Wet blue’s share of this total value in the first quarter of 2015 was just short of 25%. In the first quarter of last year, wet blue’s share of the total value of Mexico’s hides and leather exports was 21.3%.
