It is reported that the yearly leather & cloth shoes output in Kunming is more than 10 million pairs. The shoes valued RMB160 million are exported to the Southeast Asian countries, such as Vietnam and Burma, with the average export price at RMB 40.
More than ten years ago, there were over 2,000 shoemaking enterprises and workshops in Kunming. With the increasing fierce competition, only over 500 of them survived, said Zhang Xingyi, vice president of Kunming Shoe Industry Association. Most of the products are sold to the local markets of Yunnan and Southeast Asian markets, except some of enterprises and workshops manufacturing for well-known shoes brands by contract, he added.
