ACICAM, the Colombian association of footwear, leather goods and its manufacturers, reported a fall in exports for the category by 41.7 percent, from $33.3 million in 2019 to $19.4 million in 2020. Top export markets are Ecuador, the United States and Costa Rica.

The decline is largely attributed to the change in consumer habits due to the pandemic, as there have been fewer occasions to wear footwear during lockdowns.

However, it was slightly offset by a higher demand of sports shoes, sandals and comfortable footwear in the country. ACICAM estimates that 75 percent of 2020 sales across the industry came from this category.
