The Ministry of Industry opened a duty-free leather and leather products shop which was aimed at promoting the export of Ethiopian leather products at Bole International Airport.
According to Industry Minister Melaku Alebel, the realization of the duty-free shop will help in promoting the export of Ethiopian leather products.
Ethiopian Airlines allocated 200 meters square area at the airport’s terminal for the duty-free shop while Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided financial and technical support for the realization of the shop.
The leather and leather products industry is one of the leading manufacturing sectors in Ethiopia. The country mainly exports finished leather followed by shoe exports. Huajian Group, one of the largest shoe exporters in China, is currently producing shoes in Ethiopia for international brands such as Guess and Calvin Klein.
