To
give voice to the French reality and discover more on what is happening
among French tanneries, Leather Insiders team had the pleasure to
interview Christophe Dehard, the newly appointed President of the
Alliance France Cuir.
“2024
was a difficult year with a decline in tannery activity but also a sharp drop
in slaughter in France” began Mr. Dehard, by briefly describing current year.
“Consequently, these two phenomena offer a context never seen before”.
“If
I had to describe French leather industry main challenges and problems, I would
definitely mention the renewal of generations and the preservation of know-how
as the main challenges we wil have to face in the coming years”.
We
then asked the President what kind of scenario does the Alliance France Cuir
expect for next year, discovering his main aim will be to “continue to carry
the values of the 21 federations of the French leather sector”.
“To
what extent will the EUDR’s anti-deforestation law have a significant impact on
the leather segment and fashion brands? The EUDR is an opportunity to continue
to enhance European hides because European farms are not deforestation. And the
need for traceability to meet the requirements of EUDR is an opportunity to
create more links between the upstream and downstream of the leather industry”
firmly stated Mr. Dehard talking about the challenging regulation concerning
all European tanneries.
Thanking
again Mr. Christophe Dehard for his panoramic on the current French leather
industry, Leather Insiders team take chance to congratulate to the new
President for this important appointment.
