The panel is led by retired judge Justice M Sathyanarayanan and includes representatives from government departments, environmental experts and community stakeholders.
Its aim will be to discover the extent of pollution in the area, specifically regarding the Palar River, and advise the Pollution Control Board on actions.
It will also designate no-discharge zones and identify locations for common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) and evaluate existing plants.
