On September 20, 2022, the Second Executive Committee Meeting of ICT was held in Milan, Italy, by the Hybrid way of OTO. Representative of the leather industry from China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Brazil, Ethiopia and other countries attended and focused on discussion of the hot issues appeared in the global leather industry. Chen Zhanguang, vice president of China Leather Industry Association, on behind of china leather industry attended the meeting and briefed the first half of operation in China leather industry.
During the meeting, representatives from other countries also introduced the operation status of their leather industry in the first half of 2022. Following by more topics discussed, such as the carbon emissions of leather in the EU draft Regulation on Environmental Carbon Footprint of Clothing and footwear Products, the EU proposal to Reduce Chrome VI limit in leather from 3 ppm to 1 ppm , and the German Proposals on restriction of bisphenol A and other bisphenolics in the appendix of REACH.
The meeting called on all its members to actively communicate with concerned organizations and WTO for the removal of leather products from the EU's list of products damage to the forest. In addition, the results of communication between the team of HIGG Index and the Sustainable Apparel Alliance (SAC) was informed, and both were agreed on providing more instruction and explaining the reasons lagging of the data on providing, as well as the proposal to work with the World Food and Agriculture Organization to develop new standards for the carbon footprint of leather.
At the ending of the meeting, the decision was announced that the next ICT Executive Committee meeting would be held in Dubai on 31 March 2023, but the time of the meeting is tentative, the form of Meeting and topics will be notified later by the Secretariat of ICT.
