Spanish leather exports continued their negative trend in October 2024, according to the latest data from the General Directorate of Customs.
The country saw exports of raw hides and skins decline by 7.7% in the first 10 months of the year, or €8.5 million, while semi-processed material dropped 32.4% or €21.4 million and finished leather exports were down 6.1% or €22.3 million.
Comparing this period against the first 10 months of pre-pandemic 2019, exports of raw hides and skins were down 20.4%, semi-processed material fell by 7.2% and finished leather grew 7.2%.
Imports of raw hides and skins for January through to October 2024 were down 27.9% or €16.6 million, semi-processed material imports fell by 21.2% or €21.3 million and finished leather improved by 4% or €8.9 million.
Comparing these imports against the same period of 2019, the result was that raw hide imports were down 1%, semi-processed material fell by 2.7% and finished leather dropped 11%.
For January-October 2024, the trade balance for Spanish leather fell in favour exports by €132.2 million.
